There’s news that Tanith Lee has passed. Like so many, I’ve been browsing through the tributes, remembering the writer I thought I knew — through her words. I mourn the books that won’t ever be, but I’m also inspired. (And, I hope you are as well!)
In an interview with Locus Magazine, she once said: “Writers tell stories better, because they’ve had more practice, but everyone has a book in them.”
I think back to some of the fascinating stories I’ve heard when I took a few minutes to just listen. So many of us lead such fascinating lives, and it doesn’t take fame or fortune to make it so. We’re all storytellers, it’s true; but most of those tales are lost forever, with unspoken regret.
