What They Say About Hot Dogs? #Quotes

It’s National Hot Dog Day… So, you may be wondering what’s the big deal with hot dogs? Or, like me, you may be curious what the great writers have said on the topic…

For many kids,  hot dogs is one of the food they love. And, I was no exception. I can recall many picnics,  camping, and a myriad of other activities where we brought hot dogs along. They’re quick-and-easy to fix. Besides, they tend to be on the more inexpensive end of the food-budget spectrum. So, there’s the famous quote from Dwight D. Eisenhower:

“Some people wanted champagne and caviar when they should have had beer and hot dogs.”

The hot dog is also the center point for America’s favorite pastime, baseball. Humphrey Bogart famously said:

“A hot dog at the ball park is better than a steak at the Ritz.”

Of course, the whole month of July feels like a time for celebrating. Both my brother and my mother were born in July. Combine that with all the fireworks and parade antics to celebrate America’s birthday on the 4th of July, and you’ve got every reason in the world to love hot dogs, ice cream and all the favorite American food groups.

Hilarie Burton wrote:

“My birthday is July first and my best friend’s birthday is July fifth so it’s always been a favorite holiday. It’s all about having a cooler full of sodas, hot dogs, and just hanging out and shooting off firecrackers, being low-key, watching the fireworks. There’s something about a holiday that isn’t all about how much money you spend.”

Even Betty White is in on the great American food groups… She’s quoted as saying:

“Hot dogs and Red vines and potato chips are my favorite foods.”

But, it’s also a comfort food… like mac-and-cheese, or any of the usually less-than-ideal-for-your-health foods. Esther Dean once said:

“If I’m out of town and I’m in a situation where I have to be creative, it has to be hot dogs because that’s my comfort food.”

So, what’s your comfort food? Do you have a favorite recipe for creative ways to fix your hot dogs? And, what are your favorite lines, sayings and quotes from writers, or other persons of interest and importance?
